Herno Dresses Us For The Pursuit of Excellence

Combining luxury materials like mohair, alpaca and linen with technical fabrics, Herno brings us some of the most luxurious Italian performance-wear available.

Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana founded Herno shortly after WWII, in Lesa, Italy. The village is on the Piedmont side of Lake Maggiore, just south of the Alps.

The company’s name bears reference to Lesa’s Erno valley. The area’s cold, rainy winters and hot summers refreshed by heavy storms require adequate clothing to protect against the water and persistent winds.

The mountains, streams and spectacular gardens of the valley’s Lake Maggiore landscape make for an active sporting lifestyle that continues to inspire Herno today.

When Herno passed into the hands of the couple’s son, Claudio Marenzi, in the 2000s, the company was a global brand entrenched in the culture of craftsmanship. Mr. Marenzi began by streamlining the organization, making it more dynamic. From the production facilities to the garment designs, Herno is a modern luxury brand focused on functionality, quality and craftsmanship.

The Herno headquarters is a factory redesigned as a creative building site, where tradition and modernity exist side by side. The building’s design connects modernity with nature, mirroring the brand’s philosophy.

It is very important to study the new procedures but you cannot see the future if you don’t know the past.

As coats have become more informal, designs have evolved. However, the pursuit of excellence remains.

Current designs borrow shapes from the company’s history of tailoring but are modernized. Their style department mixes fabrics typical of active sportswear like nylon with the world of luxury fabrics like mohair, alpaca and linen.

Materials are just the beginning. With a strong attention to detail, coats are instantly recognizable from their couture features. A-line swing silhouettes, three-quarter sleeves, and high stand-up collars bring Herno’s timeless style to life. From capes to parkas, these luxurious garments are waterproof but breathable and light yet warm.
